Somewhere I have never travelled

is the beginning of a poem by ee cummings. It is also the subject line of the first email I ever sent to my now husband on match.com.

As far back as I can remember, I have been afflicted with travel lust. But I had built my life in a way that was not compatible with that desire. At least that’s what I thought for my first 37 years.

At 37, I met my future husband, who had already traveled to 137 countries. His match profile was so full of travel pics, I thought he was a travel photographer. And we were off!

As of 2011, I’ve been to 19 countries, not even within striking distance of 137. We take 3 or 4 major trips a year and many more minor jaunts. We don’t usually stay in one hotel for more than 3 days, so I have slept in countless strange beds!

I’d like to share my experiences and offer one traveler’s opinion of the cities we explore, the hotels, chateaus, inns we stay in, and the food we eat.
